Remunerated transport requires registration with the Burundian Revenue Office (OBR) and/or the API Single Window as a trader. Registration provides you with two very important documents in remunerated transport, namely:
- The commercial register (RC);
- The tax identification number (NIF);

With the exception of nationals of the East African Community and the DRC, any foreign person wishing to travel to Burundi must be in possession of a visa. The application for a residence visa is made in any Embassy of Burundi or at the International Airport of Bujumbura. For people already on the territory, the steps are taken directly with the Air Police, Borders and Foreigners (PAFE). Different visas can be obtained:

Burundis Trade Information Portal (TIP) presents very detailed information on import, export and transit procedures for specific goods. Through the portal, users will know what procedures they need to complete; they will learn exactly how to obtain prior licenses and registrations, mandatory permits and certificates, and how to have goods processed and cleared by customs administrations.
The trade procedures are presented in a sequential step-by-step manner, with each step containing the relevant information on the following 9 elements: the entity, unit and person in charge, requirements, the results of the step, cost, duration (minimum and maximum), legal justification, any additional information, Entity, unit and person responsible for handling complaints, Authority that certified the process.
The trade portal provides information on complete trade procedures across different corridors, including shipping ports, airports and ports of entry. To date, approximately ten procedures have been published and can be accessed using the search bar on the home page. The ongoing documentation work undertaken by the Office Burundais des Recettes (OBR) project team will continually increase the number of procedures and products on the Portal.
