    i. Market/goods
Market at the Katuna Border (Uganda side) is mainly trading in local commodities sourced within Uganda.
There are not much cross-border activities between Uganda and Rwanda at the border. This is attributed to stringent measures at the border by the government of Rwanda to curb spread of EBOLA. 
Traders from Rwanda cross over to Uganda side to carry food produce in vehicles/trucks in large quantities, but small-scale traders are highly restricted.

    • Cabbages
    • Irish potatoes
    • Sorghum
    • Maize floor
    • Fish
    • Pineapple
    • Cassava

    • Orange 
    • Tomatoes 


ii. Processes at the border



  • At the border crossing, traders are expected to produce National identification document to be cleared to cross the border.

  • Rwanda charges for goods imported to Rwanda through the border, but do not charge for exported from Rwanda to Uganda through the border.

  • Uganda do not restrict border activities.

        iii. Challenges

  • There are high restrictions at the border mainly by Rwanda authorities towards managing EBOLA Spread. This have greatly affected cross-border trade.

  • Yellow bananas from Uganda to Rwanda are not allowed by Rwanda authorities for cross-border trade.

  • Rwanda do not allow traders from Uganda to go and sell in Rwanda side of the border.

  • There is no modern infrastructure in the market where traders can shelter.
